LC Fire Hydrants Being Inspected

Fire Hydrants to be Inspected

Las Cruces has contracted with Hydromax USA, a utilities field services company, to inspect all fire hydrants within the City, a process that began this week.

The annual inspections are vital to the Las Cruces Fire Department’s Insurance Services Office score which can determine the cost of insurance for homeowners and businesses.

Currently, the City of Las Cruces maintains an ISO Class 1 rating, which is the best possible rating a community can receive. The rating allows homeowners and businesses within City limits to enjoy lower property insurance rates.

Las Cruces was the first community in New Mexico to earn an ISO Class 1 and has maintained the standing since 2015.

There are 5,110 fire hydrants in Las Cruces. The Hydromax inspections began Monday, March 3, 2025. The inspections will be done Monday through Friday for the next five to six months.

When fire hydrants are flushed, there is a small possibility that residences and businesses may see tap water that appears dirty or discolored. The discoloration will dissipate after running the water for a short period of time.
